1. Homosexuality and lesbianism are two examples of  iniquity or perverse  sexual practices

In the previous post, we discovered that God refers to Homosexuality And Lesbianism as highly unclean and distasteful behaviors. He  specifically commanded Israel to “keep His statues and judgments” regarding sexual behaviors and warned them that He would punish the land and its inhabitants for the iniquity:

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination  (H8441) (Leviticus 18: 22)

‘You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman. That is detestible (HNV)

Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin (NLT).

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them (Leviticus 20: 13).

Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it [is] confusion

Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit [any] of these abominations; [neither] any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you

(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which [were] before you, and the land is defiled;)

That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that [were] before you (Leviticus 18: 23- 28) .

2. What is iniquity?

`Avon (H5771) is the hebrew word used for iniquity. It carries the meaning of fault, sin and mischief.  `Avon comes from the root word `avah (H 5753) which clearly reveals that homosexuality and lesbianism are sexual perverse behaviors: `Avah refers to:

  • someone who is perverse – 2 Samuel 20: 30
  • perverse actions – 2 Samuel 19: 19
  • wicked behavior – 2 Sam 24: 17
  • doing wrong – Esther 1: 16
  • perverting something – Job 33: 27
  • sin – Psalm 106: 6
  • having a perverse heart – Proverbs 12: 8
  • turn something upside down – Isaiah 24: 1
  • perverting the right way – Jeremiah 3: 21
  • crookedness – Lamentations 3: 9

3. Modern day English definition of “perverse”

As it did then and it does now,  the word perverse means:

  • deliberately deviating from what is regarded as normal, good, or proper
  • persistently holding to what is wrong
  • wayward or contrary; obstinate; cantankerous (Collinsdictionary.com 2012).

I am amazed that the Holy Scriptures use so many descriptive synonyms to explain the meaning of perverse.

We therefore understand from the Holy Scriptures that homosexuality and lesbianism are perverse sexual behaviours which deviate from God’s established order for intimate human relationships, marriage and procreation.

The scriptures reveal that a person who commits iniquity is a rebel against God and His ways:

Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit [any] of these abominations; [neither] any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you (Leviticus 18: 26)

We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have
rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments (Daniel 9: 5)

Question: How do nations of earth deal with rebels?  Why do you think that God is any different?

Blessings!
