1. Review of the World SuperPowers Revealed to Daniel
In the previous post, I wrote on the Background for understanding world superpowers or Kingdoms in the Book of Daniel. With tongue in cheek, God compared the Superpowers to animals or beasts. This is because they rule under the control of satan, who was more subtil than any other beast of the field. He was therefore able to deceive Adam and Eve and also nations of the earth as a result.
God gave Prophet Daniel two visions about World Kingdoms or SuperPowers as the World Power of the Babylonians began to wane. The scriptures therefore reveal that God gave fair warning through His Prophet that every SuperPower will be destroyed.
Daniel saw the lion, bear, leopard and fourth and terrible beast in the FIRST year of Belshazzar. Prophetically speaking, the number ONE represents the shedding of light on future Kingdoms or SuperPowers. God reveals that He will judge and entirely remove the power of the most destructive kingdoms of earth.
Prophet Daniel then saw the vision of the ending of the kingdoms of his era in the THIRD year of Belshazzar’s rule. THREE represents the emergence of earth from under the waters or deliverance from oppression. Darius the Mede, aka Cyrus, conquered Belshazzar and released the Jews from captivity in the first year of his reign (Table 1).
Archangel Gabriel told me that Israel plays a role in each of these prophecies. How? The nation of Israel is affected by each of these World SuperPowers and we should therefore interpret the prophecies with this understanding. History has certainly proven that the prophecies speak about Israel’s diplomatic relationship with other nations and also to their role in World history and affairs.
Table 1 Summary of the visions of Daniel 7 and 8
|Daniel 8||Revelation 13|
|FIRST year of Belshazzar king of Babylon||THIRD year of the reign of King Belshazzar|
|556 BC||553 BC|
|Lion||Ram = Medes and Persianshad two high horns, but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last
Ram stood on the river in the nation of Iraq.
|Apostle John saw ONE beast which looked like a leopard, had feet like a bear and a mouth like a lion- Revelation 13: 2.It had seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns|
|Bear||Goat = Greekscame from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.Greece is West of Iraq or Babylon.
Four horns emerged. Then one little one became dominant.
|Another beast emerged with two horns like a lamb, although he spake as a dragon (Revelation 13: 11)|
|Leopard||King of a fierce and dark countenance = Rome|
|A fourth and terrible beast|
|Lion, Bear and Leopard had their “dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time” (Daniel 7: 12).|
|The fourth beast, which was “dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly,” had his throne cast down, was judged by God and slain (Daniel 7: 7 – 11).|
2. Which World Superpower is represented by the Lion (‘aryeh/H744) in Daniel 7?
a. Is the identity of that SuperPower revealed in the usage of Lion (‘aryeh/H744) in the text of Daniel 7: 4?
Using blueletterbible.org, I first did a word search on the Hebrew usage of the word LION (‘aryeh/H744) in the text of Daniel 7: 14. ‘Aryeh was used nine other times in the book of Daniel to refer to the den of lions into which Daniel was thrown because he prayed to God in spite of the anti – God Law. However, God sent His Angels to shut the lions’ mouths and to save the life of His Prophet Daniel.
Seeing the power of Daniel’s God, King Darius commanded Daniel’s enemies and their families to be thrown in. The lions were so ferocious that they overpowered Daniel’s enemies who were thrown in and broke their bones even before they reached the bottom of the pit (Daniel 6: 24). King Darius then commanded all the people in his great kingdom to serve God (Daniel 6: 26 – 28). I believe that this miracle prompted him to release the Jews from captivity, since it appeared to have taken place in the first year of his reign (Daniel 6: 1).
I saw that the usage of LION (‘aryeh/H744) did not give an indication of the World Superpower which Daniel saw in the vision of Daniel 7: 4. However, because of the texts and circumstances associated with of the word ‘aryeh, I was shown some key truths about the nature of that LION:
- Presidents and Princes will envy the Prophets and people of God (Daniel 6: 1 – 4)
- They will lay traps for the Prophets and people of God (Daniel 6: 4 – 9)
- They will legislate anti – God laws in order to throw the Prophets and people of God to the lions (Daniel 6: 4 – 9; Daniel 6: 11 – 13).
- The lion is a killer, but God will send His Angels to shut the lions’ mouths.
- The Presidents, Princes, their families and possessions will be thrown instead to the lions
- Nations will serve the God of the Prophets because of His indisputable greatness.
b. Is Israel the World SuperPower revealed in other scriptures in which the word LION is used?
Israel was compared to a lion in the scriptures. However, is Israel the lion in Daniel 7: 4? In order to find out, I resorted to a general word search on lion:
a. As he prepared to depart from the Planet, Jacob prophesied about the future of his sons or of the nation of Israel and compared the Tribe of Judah to a lion’s whelp or cub:
And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days
Judah is a lion‘s (‘ariy/H738) whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? (Genesis 49: 1, 9)
b. Forced by God to change his curse to a blessing, Baalam prophesied that no spell could work against Israel and that the nation was like a lion. We see the same spirit of Judah or worship being transferred to the entire nation:
Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: H738 he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain (Numbers 23: 24)
God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows
He couched, he lay down as alion, H738 and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee (Numbers 24: 8 & 9)
c. Moses described Dan as “a lion’s H738 whelp: he shall leap from Bashan” (Numbers 33: 22).
d. The men of the tribe of Gad who followed David had faces that were compared to lions – intelligent and strong:
And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, H738 and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains (1 Chronicles 12: 8)
e. Prophet Jeremiah compared the Kingdoms of Assyria and Babylon to lions which had destroyed Israel. However, the lion in Daniel’s vision is clearly a SuperPower that emerged after the destruction of the Babylonian Empire:
Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions H738 have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones (Jeremiah 50: 17).
However, given the context and usage of Lion in Daniel 4: 7, it does not seem that it refers to the Nation of Israel. Practically speaking, Israel at the time was in captivity in Babylon, returned to the land in 539 BC and was ruled by the Greeks, Romans and other nations throughout their history. Israel never regained its former glory that it enjoyed under David and Solomon due to rebellion and sin. Additionally, Apostle John saw the remnants of that lion in his Revelation 13 vision. At that time, its power had waned to some degree and it had formed a conglomerate with the leopard and bear.
3. We see from Daniel 7: 4 and other texts that LION hates Israel. These include Assyria, Babylon and other Gentile nations:
Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions H738 have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones (Jeremiah 50: 17)
Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers (Ezekiel 32: 2)
Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion H738 two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch (Amos 3: 12)
And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion H738 among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver (Micah 5: 8)
For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion (Joel 1: 6)
4. Archangel Gabriel taught me that David prophetically destroyed the Lion as a youth, because he knew his God. He was a worshipper and warrior:
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God (1 Samuel 17: 34 & 36).
More to come on the identity of that Lion in Daniel 7: 4. Have a blessed week. Blessings, peace and angelic prosperity and protection.
