Background information on the flood of Noah’s day

May 8, 2009

I just wrote that Jesus’ spirit  descended into hell where He preached to the spirits of those who had died in the flood of Noah’s day. Let us now review the events leading up to the flood.  Genesis 6 first introduces the scenario of the times:

  • people began to multiply in the earth and they had sons and daughters
  • There were giants in the earth in those days and and they became mighty men of renown after they intermarried with the sons of God.
  • the intermarriage of the sons of God with women signalled the beginning of great wickedness in the earth (Gen 6: 1-6). This was aggravating especially because they lived for hundreds of years so that the earth became filled with violence.
  • God not only became displeased, but repented that He had made man.

Who were these sons of God?

This phrase (and/or son of God) occurs in several scriptures:

a. In the Old Testament

  • the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful (Gen 6: 2)
  • There were giants (nĕphiyl/ Nephilim/H5307) in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown (Gen 6: 4). According to Strong’s, the word Nephilim/nĕphiyl (H5307) also matches  the word giants (H5303)  which is used in Gen 6: 4 and Numbers 13: 33).
  • Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD (Job 1: 6; 2: 1).
  • Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand . .. when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:4, 7 )
  • “Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called sons of the living God.’ (Hosea 1: 10; Rom 9: 26)

b. In the New Testament

  • Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God (Matt 5:9)
  • Which was [the son] of Enos, which was [the son] of Seth, which was [the son] of Adam, which was [the son] of God (Luke 3: 38).
  • but as many as received Him, to them gave He  power (of authority and privilege) to become the sons of God, even as many as believed on His name (John  1: 12)
  • because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God (Rom 8: 14)
  • The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed (Rom 8: 19)
  • You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus (Gal 3: 26).

Possible interpretations

a. The “son of God” referred to Adam who was created in the likeness of God.

Apostle Luke referred to Adam as the “son of God”. I believe he did so because Adam was the first human created.  We must pay attention to the fact that Adam was created in the “image and likeness” of God and that he was perfect, like God, before the fall. This is confirmed by the scriptures saying that man was created in the likeness of God in the day that he was created (Gen 5: 1). However, after the fall, man had the propensity to sin and this was reflected in Cain’s hatred and envy of his brother which eventually led to the first murder. Scriptures later began to describe the human offspring as resembling their parents, rather than God, in character.   Genesis 5: 3 says that that “Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat [a son] in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth”. Adam was no longer pure and sinless and his son Seth was born in the

However, it appears that Seth (a replacement for Abel) made a choice to walk with God, because men began to call on God after his son Enos was born. The use of the term “men” implies that the human race had begun to multiply. It is likely that the Seth and his family were worshippers.

There is another connotation in the usage of the term “son of God” in the Old Testament. God viewed the disobedient Jews as alien to Him. In the prophecy to Hosea, the disobedient Jews were alien to Him because they were  worshipping demons. God told the Prophet that they would be called sons of the Living God when they repented. Those who are not sons of God have aligned themselves with the devil and he is their father, as Jesus  told the Jews (Jn 8: 44)

b. “Sons of God” refers to angels

God Himself made reference to the “sons of God” being present at the foundation of the earth. Since Adam had not yet been created, God was clearly speaking about the angels. Following their rebellion, satan and his angels were cast out of heaven.

The writer of the book of Job also referred to the “sons of God” presenting themselves before the Lord and Satan ALSO appearing with them.  Satan is a prodigal son and he does appear in the presence of God, not to do good, but to resist and accuse the saints. We saw this clearly in his opposition of Job. In his vision, Prophet Zechariah also saw him standing at God’s right hand to resist the high priest Joshua (Zech 3: 1).

We need to pay attention to the scriptures which show that satan presents him self before God because of  the repitition of  this truth in Job 1: 6 and 2: Note that the exact words are used for emphasis.  Does he thinks that he is a son of God? However, Job 1: 12 shows that he went forth from the presence of  God to do evil.

c. Sons of God walk with God and  reflect His character

This is the New Testament picture of those who believe in Jesus. They are restored to the position of power and authority that Adam held in the earth and they also reflect the image of God. They are filled with and led by the Holy Spirit even as Abraham, Moses,  Jesus and other men and women of faith in scriptures.

Of things pertaining to angels!

January 13, 2007

I was at 6 am prayer at LFT today when the Lord spoke to me about things pertaning to angels, Himself and His sons. He has put me on a vow of silence (verbal) for 7 days of the 21 day prayer, so all I could do is listen and write. Anytime I open my mouth He tells me to be quiet, so I pray with my spirit. Yes, one can do this according to 1 Cor 14. Anyway, the Lord began by speaking about the angels who scriptures call “sons of God” (Gen 6:2, 4; Job 1:6,2:1,38: 1 – 7). The latter scriptures show that the angels were present at the creation of the earth. The Lord then started to teach me about His only begotten Son as well as those of us who have received power to become sons of God, like the angels (Jn 1:12)and like His Son. We spoke of angels previously, but Jesus taught us the following about the inheritance of those who become sons of God by believing on the name of the firrst – begotten Son. This is found in Lk 20: 34-36 and says that “Jesus answering said unto them, the children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: but they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage, neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” Please pay attention here, we must first be counted worthy to obtain that world, and will be like the angels who live forever and do not marry. We are also called the children of God because of the resurrection by which we obtained an inheritance with the beloved. We will be equal to the angels in the following ways – they dwell in the presence of the Lord, worship continually, execute the Lord’s decrees since they are ministering spirits (Ps 103:21), are sinless since there is a nature of angels which Jesus did not take on (Heb 2:16). Angels minister to the heirs of salvation like they did to Mrs Manoah, Mary and others. When you meet them, you need to be ready with pen and paper, because they will share with you the mysteries of the kingdom. For example, the servant of the Lord told me that dinosaurs were created before Adam and are not clumsy as they are made out to be. Scientists have also mismatched the bones. I was also told that the ice at the north pole is melting and that polar bears are becoming extinct – take it or leave it. They will give you gifts of varied types and may even ask for a gift, which tickles them because they get to show off to the other angels and to God about the encounter. They will question you about the Bible and things of God to see what you know, so please be ready with the spiritual revelation and ability to rightly divide the word of truth. This pleases them very much. They are always around you. Never fear. They will help you and tell you what to do. Sometimes they hold converstions with each other to instruct you. I met one angel outside of the Library after writing the blog on Jesus the beloved. He was walking up to the subway on an assignment and initiated a conversation about the content of what I had just written, all the way up to Utica Avenue station. He gave me a gift as well. Angels have no body odor. They smell very clean and fresh and some will let you know who they are by giving you a whiff, for example, by liftng the arm. This is really amusing. They will walk and talk with you and are loathe to separate from the encounter. They are funny, like Michael, who came into White Castle dressed like a beggar. He is very clean and fastidious. He was fast talking and funny, but when he got close all one could smell was perfume! A beggar wearing perfume! I nearly rolled away. Now I was told to tell you about the angelic encounters, but I held back out of caution. I am being urged every day to do so. How will you know them? First, you have to be in cahoots with God, for then shall you know even as you are known! (1 Cor 13: 10-12). They tell you ‘angel” and tell you what to do or say, for example, by calling out “angel” in response. This is really funny. At other times they give signs, like trying to get me to eat at least some nuts during the fast. They realy love the beloved and will outdo themselves to help/serve you when on special assignments. If you are mediocre in the kingdom, you will hardly attract the attention of angels. You need to search diligently for God and have a heart that really loves Him. For example, Daniel’s angel was Michael the chief (Dan 10:21) but it was Gabriel who came to his rescue, because they love the beloved equally and Michael tends to be more retiring. They are mighty in power/strength (Ps 103:20), possess spiritual bodies (more on this), ascend and descend into heaven as we saw from Jacob and Jesus’ testimony, execute the vengeance of the Lord as they are full of fire (Ps 104:4). There are ranks of angels as we learn from the key positions of Michael and Gabriel and the 4 angels around the throne who execute judgements in the earth (although they are not the only ones). They are organized like an army, with Commanders etc. You will knwo them from the bearing. Help the little ones who need a promotion, please, but don’t let them take advantage of you. Angels hate satan and war against it and its angels. They carry the word of the Lord and also carry the prayers of the saints to the Throne of Grace (Dan 10:12, Rev 8:3,4). Therefore we receive angelic assistance when we begin to fast and pray, which are the most powerful forms of intercession as we learn from Daniel and Jesus (Lk 4). This is because prayer and fasting strengthens the spirit and induces mountain moving faith which causes the impossible to become possible (Mt 17:18-21, Mk 9: 19-29). As a result, satanic strongholds will come down and in anticipation of this, the enemy always trys to intercept the prayer in order to prevent its demise. Israel’s 40 year fast in the wilderness increased them in superhuman strength to fight giants riding in chariots of iron. Blessings and more to come!

Angels! Angels!

January 5, 2007

Cherubims and seraphims are extremely important in the order of angels! For example, the angel Gabriel told Daniel that there were secrets that only he and Michael were privy to (Dan 10: 20-21). God’s chief angels are greater in power than the chief princes of satan. For example, in Daniel 10, Gabriel the chief prince came forth to help another angel to overcome the Prince of Persia who withstood him for 21 days. Michael the other chief prince is of greater power than the devil. He was sent to claim Moses’ body (Jude 9) and also led the army which cast satan out of heaven in Rev 12. According to the Law of Equal things, we know too that Gabriel also has equivalent power since they both cover the throne and since Gabriel said in an 10: 22 that they two were the only one possessing certain of God’s secrets. They would be equivalent to Chiefs of Staff. God has set this order or example in heaven for a purpose becasue He wants to teach us that choefs of staff here on earth, the Pastors, Teachers, Elders, Bishops, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists etc, must be men and women who dwell in His presence, share His intimate secrets and who possess and exercise greater spiritual authority than tht of the devil. Satan always resists God’s plans, either in person or through a representative as we leaarn in Daniel 10 and Zechariah 3:1 and it would take another with greater spiritual authority to resist him steadfast in the faith. This is important because satan was formerly one of the cherubs that covered the throne (eze 28: 14, 16). He therefore has a lot of power and knows a lot of secrets that he can use to our destruction if we are ignorant of his devices/wiles. We also learn from Gabriel that satan continues resistance activities evn when we defeat him on one ground. He told Daniel that the prince of Grecia would come to fight him in revenge for getting through to Daniel and to increase the strength of the resistance to any further prayer. This is a serious lesson for us in the importance of continuing ot hold any ground that we have taken from the enemy. Jesus Himself said that the personality of demons is to seek dry places once they are expelled from a dwelling place and to return to it with stronger demons in order to take up a more forceful and powerful occupancy (mt 12: 43-45). We’ve got to be more careful about maintaining our prayer, praise, worship, word and holy lifestyles so that no room would be given to the devil- “no room, no vacancy na dey! Back way satan”. The final issue I would like to examine is the pictures of the cherubims on the walls of the earthly tabernacle and in the vail of the temple (Ex 26: 1; 36:8, EX 26: 31; 36:35, 1 Kings 6: 23-29, 2 Chron 3: 10-13, 2 Chron 3: 14, 1 Kins 6: 29-35, 2 Chron 3: 7, Eze 41: 18-20). What is the symbolism? Well, even as the angels surround the walls of the tabernacle in heaven, even so do they surround the living temples of the Most High God. Ps 34: 7 says that “the angel of the lord encampeth round about them that fear Him and delivereth them”. Even as they wait on Him in His temple, so too do they help the heirs of salvation. The Psalmist in 91: 10, 11 says that no evil shall befall us because He puts angels in charge of us. We the kingdom people have out own security system which is better than ADT. Minister Winston told me that Jesus is symbolized by the tree of life of whom we must eat in order to receive everlasting life (Jn 6: 51,53) even as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil represents the devil. That got me thinking further that if the angels guarded the way to the tree of life, symbolizing Jesus, is this the reason why the cherubims are engraved into the vail of the temple that was built on earth? Did the vail in the Temple represent Christ to whom the access was blocked under the law? Note that the vail preceded the entrance to the Holy of Holies! Note too that only the High Priest could enter and once a year to offer sacrifice for his and the sins of the people. Note too that the vail symbolically rent from top to bottom when Jesus gave up the ghost, in other words, when He rent His spirit from His body. This is very symbolic because we access God through Jesus Christ (Rom 5: 1). Paul in Romans 8 said that those in Christ are no longer condemned by the law. In Hebrews 8 and 9, we learn that Christ showed us the way into the presence of God by the sacrifice of Himself. Blessings and more to come!

Angels again!

January 5, 2007

Yes! Isaiah (chap 6)also saw those angels who cover God’s Thrones. He called them seraphims and saw them standing above the Throne, like the pictures God gave to Moses of the 2 anointed cherubims whose wings cover the ark of the covenant. Each had 6 wings – 2 each covering the face and feet and 2 for flying. Like the “beasts” that John saw, they are the ministers of the Lord and ceaselessly declare His praises as they fly. These particular ones must be the one and the same Michael and Gabriel. I also want to examine the similarity between the “beasts” that John saw and the living creatures seen by Ezekiel in chapter 1. He saw 4 living creatures like a man. Each one had 4 faces and 4 wings with the latter joined together. On the right they had the faces of a man and a lion and on the left the faces of an ox and an eagle. Jesus compared His strength and burden bearing capacity to that of the ox when he said that we should “take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Mat 11:29). An eagle has the capacity to protect, defend and carry and the mother is described in Deu 32:11 as one that “stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings”. God reminded Israel that He had borne them up on eagle’s wings while they were in the desert (Ex 19:4)and these angels are thus represented to demonstrate to us a picture of who He is to His people. Ezekiel saw a side view in chapter 41: 18-20,25 in which he saw the right side of the faces or the faces of the man and lion, symbolizing the personality of Jesus who is the lion of the tribe of Judah. The feet of these angels were straight so we know they were not animals and the soles of feet were like a calf’s. I was looking at the two headed dragon on PBS’s “Dragon Tales” and got an instant mental picture of what these angels look like. God may have created them like this to tell us that He does not miss anything and He will respond like a rapid Response Unit when He needs to take action. We see four elements of His character -the loving, gentle calf; the graceful, powerful eagle flying high; the king of the earth the lion and the face of man to represent Jesus the Son of Man. God is indeed able to identify with us. Ezekiel gave a fascinating description of the living creatures, some of which I need to have a mental picture for. In chapter 1: 2, he said that they looked like “coals of fire, like lamps, it (the appearance of the fire) went up and down among the living creatures and the fire was bright and went forth like lightening”. The angels, who were running back and forth very quickly, looked like flashes of lightening when they did so. This is why the Psalmist, who saw them too, called them “a flaming fire” (Ps 104: 4). They are the fire which go before the Lord to burn up or destroy His enemies (Ps 97:3). They are the train of the Lord (Isa 6: 1). They are “the flaming sword which turned every way to keep the way of th tree of life” in Gen 3:24. They are the “stones of fire” among whom satan walked, showing his importance in the order of the angels.

Those angels!

January 3, 2007

I was trying to find out about those cherubims guarding the way to the tree of life in the midst of the eastern part of the garden of Eden (Gen 3: 24). The only clue that I could find so far is the usage of the terms “living creatures” in Ezekiel 1 and “beasts” in Rev 4 to describe angels in the Bible. The Law of similarity shows that the living creatures and beasts that Ezekiel and John saw are one and the same angels. In Revelation 4, John describes the four beasts – one was like a lion, one like a calf, one with a face like a man and the other like a flying eagle. The are angels because they were full of eyes “before and behind”, they have wings so they could fly, they worship ceaselessly and speak. Strong’s Dictionary suggests that the word “beast” which used to describe the angels in Rev 4, 5: 14 and 6: 1-7 is unsuitable and “living creatures” should be used instead (blueletterbible.com). The word beasts emerged from the Greek root word “zao” which is characteristic of true life. Furthermore, these “beasts” are in perfect harmony with the will of God in heaven (Rev 6) The figures of the lion, calf, face like a man and flying eagle could be representative of the personality, role and function of these angels. I suggest this because they dwell “in the midst of the throne, and round about throne” (Rev 4: 6). These angels could have an extremely important role in executing God’s plans and purposes in contrast to that of other angels. For example, Zechariah saw these 4 angels (which John called beasts) in chapter 6. An angel told Zechariah that these 4 angels are the “four spirits of the heavens that go forth from standing before the Lord of the whole earth” (Zech 6:5). They differ from Michael and Gabriel who are the covering cherubs of God’s presence (Zech 4: 14). In Zechariah 6, these four angels came forth from heaven on 4 chariots with red (Rev 6:4), black (Rev 6: 5,6), white (Rev 6: 2)and grisled and bay horses (Rev 6:8). Their roles are explained in the comparable chapter of Revelation 6. See the similarity in the chapter number?. These 4 angels went to different areas of the earth (Zech 6: 6,7). They were the eyes of the Lord, searching out the evil and the good (Pro 15:3, Deut 11:12,2 Chron 16:9). Since they did not find good in the north country, they quieted the Spirit of the Lord by destroying the evil there. The Lord told Zechariah (6: 8)that “these that go toward the north country have quieted my Spirit in the north country”. Can the Lord’s Spirit become agitated? Yes, He became agitated when the Tower of Babel was being built and quieted His Spirit by changing the languages, upsetting the people’s plans and dispersing them. He did so when the people of the earth in Noah’s day became exceedingly wicked and He destroyed them in a flood. He did so again when the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah reached up to heaven and He destroyed the city by fire. He killed the Caananites through the sword of His people Israel because of their idolatry, devil worship (as we learnt from Og the king of Bashan) and wicked practices such as passing their children through fire as a ritual of their worship. These angels had a role in preparing the way for the return of true worship and the establishmento of the throne of His Son (Zech 6). More to come!
