It is vitally important that the gospel be preached with the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray continually for this to be manifested in the ministry God has given to me, but I am not satisfied that I am doing works that are greater than Christ’s, as He left in His will to the church. The demonstration of the power is critical to saving those who are lost and blind to the truth, particularly those who think they have power through the occult. The demonstration of the power will cause their blinded eyes to open to the deception of the devil, the bondage they are in and cause them to ask for deliverance from the oppression of the devil. When they are in that state, it is usually relatively easy to cast the demons out.
Mind you, when one is preaching the word in any form, there will always be “show downs of power” between the power of God and the kingdom of darkness. That is the reason why the believer must watch always in prayer and remain connected to the power source, maintaining a daily walk with God (like Enoch) so that the anointing will continually flow. Note that rivers flow. Jesus operated effortlessly in the power of the Holy Spirit, exercising authority with a word and unorthodox methods as the Holy Spirit led Him. Where are we today? There were power plays in the Bible (God always won):
  • Pharaoh vs Moses (Exodus 1 – 15);
  • Baalim vs Israel (Num 22-23);
  • Elijah vs the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18: 17 -40);
  • Paul vs the fortune – telling spirit (Acts 16: 16 – 19);
  • Elymas vs Paul
If the Satan helpers are still alive after God’s victory, it would do them well to get rid of the ccultic arts and serve the true and living God, like those in Acts 19: 14 – 18. It might be an even better idea not to bother, because the Lord becomes really angry when people touch His anointed. Baalim, for example, nearly lost his life when an angel blocked him with the intention of executing him (Num 22). His ass, who was not such an ass after all, saw the angel while he did not. Imagine that!
Herod lost his life after an angel smote him for taking the worship due to God (Acts 12: 20 – 23). Mind you! Men and women of God seem to be an irresistible target for witches etc. They come around seeking contests, but in the name of the Lord we will drive out the dominion of the devil and free them from bondage. That is why one must not play around in the kingdom. The demonstration of the power is important for setting captives free. Many people join churches and function in all kinds of important membership roles, still possessed with devils. Devils can hide. The effeminate spirit is a common example. Paul in in 1 Cor 2: 4-5 says that his “speech and preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God”.
