Did Jesus have a sexual relationship with Mary Magdalene?

The Lord spoke with me during our 6 am prayer today about His anger and vexation about the writings of Dan Browne (i.e the infamous Da Vinci Code). One of the accusations that I was asked to deal with is the issue of Mary Magdalene as His supposed “lover”. This in itself is blasphemy of the highest order.

At age 12, Jesus was totally versed in the law which did not permit prostitution. As a devout Jew, He was an adherent of the law, coming to fufill the law and the prophets:

  • “therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Mat 7:12).
  • “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Mat 22:40)
  • and Luke 16:16 which says that “the law and the prophets [were] until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it”.
  • As a devout Jew, Jesus was a virgin throughout His entire life.
  • Mary Magdalene had formerly been demon possessed?
  • She was Mary the sister of Lazarus (Jn 11:1-2) and the woman who took an alabaster box of precious ointment and anointed His feet then wiped them with her hair (Jn 11:1-2; Jn 12:1-3).
  • What motivated Mary’s action of worship? The oil symbolized the anointing of the Spirit of God that was on His life. She anointed His feet because of her wonderful deliverance. The scriptures say that beautiful are the feet of those who carry the gospel (Isa 52:7, Rom 10: 15).  She had also been possessed with 7 devils (Mk 16:9, Lk 8:2).
  • We learn from scriptures that the demon possessed take on the personality of the demon. Examples include the bent over with a crippling spirit which was called the spirit of infirmity (Lk 13: 11).
  • There are demons of deafness and dumbness (Mk 9: 25). The child with a dumb spirit pined away, foamed and gnashed with his teeth (Mk 9: 18). You would think that a dumb spirit would manifest only with dumbness, but this one was manifesting all of its virulence and torment on this innocent child. The demons in this child were suicidal and murderous since they tossed into the fire and water(Mt 17: 15-17).
  • The demon possessed could also behave unnaturally. For example, there was a man who wandered up and down in the tombs (wandering spirit), possessed supernatural strength and could not be bound (Mk 5:5, Lk 8: 27). A similar example is found in Acts 19: 14-18. Demons caused him to commit acts of self mutilation (Mk 5:5).
  • Demons are foul, evil, wicked and unclean and they cause character, personality and behavioral changes in the one possessed and the individual can descend to the depths of degradation (Lk 4: 36, 6:18, 7:21, 8:2).
  • Demonic possession can be overt and clearly manifested in the facial expression and behavior or can be covert, hiding silently in the individual. Saul was a prime example of the former (Mt 10: 1, 1 Sam 16:14, 18:10) since everyone knew when he was being tormented. Maybe he was screaming, foaming etc. The scriptures do not say.
  • Demons can can cause people to lie as we learn from the example of the lying prophets of Baal (1 Kings 22: 22-23, 2 Chr 18: 21-22), they can work miracles (rev 16:14) and prophesy lies or even the truth (Rev 16:13, Acts 16: 17-18).
  • Acts 19: 14- 19 shows a clear relationship between demonic activity and black arts since the demon’s confession of Jesus as Lord convinced the satan worshippers to the extent of giving up their practices. Beware all those who seek the occult in any form! You are opening up your life to demonic possession and oppression. While this is not really the key focus, we learn from the Old Testament that satanic worship was also associated with wicked and abominable acts like sodomy, child sacrifice (2 Kings 16:3, 23:7, 10, 2 Chr 33:6, Eze 16:21).
  • I say all of this to make a point about the condition and torment that Mary must have been in. She had not one, but 7 devils. Jesus says that she was the one caught in adultery, punishable by stoning under the law (Jn 8: 2-11). She was a known adulterer or prostitute. This is the manner in which the demons manifested themselves and they included the demons of lust and covetousness. Jesus was gracious to forgive since He had come not to condemn, but to forgive, so that all through Him might be saved. What was He writing in the dirt? He was writing about the sins and personal indiscretions of the accusers, a factor which caused their consciences to convict them and slink out of the scene (Jn 8: 9). As a result they had no grounds on which to stone her, since they themselves needed to be stoned . This is an example of Jesus holding His tongue in His cheek and laughing silently to Himself.
  • How am I sure that this was Mary Magdalene? Well, the Lord told me so. Furthermore, this implied by the Law of Inference in Luke 7: 37-48 in which Luke recounts the incident in which Mary (“the woman which was a sinner”) anointed Jesus’ feet. This woman had been well known for her nefarious activities. Jesus knew exactly who she had been, because He gave a parable to explain why He had allowed her to do what she had done (Lk 7: 40 -42). Mary loved Jesus the most because she had had many sins which the Lord had forgiven.
  • Now the scriptures withheld her name (when caught in adultery) in order to maintain her privacy. After all, she had been forgiven much, and no one wanted to maintain this as a memorial, even as God tosses our sins into the sea of forgetfulness! Furthermore, who would want to remember such sins as adultery when she made up to the Lord in her devotion and transformed lifestyle? We learn that she would sit at the Lord’s feet in an attitude of worship and learn from Him (Lk 10: 39,42). The only other prostitute mentioned in the gospels was the woman at the well and she was a Samaritan and not a Jew, so big deal! No other woman was mentioned in the gospels as being a sinner, so this is how the Law of Inference operates here to let us know that Mary Magdalene and the woman caught in adultery are one and the same person.
  • Why would Jesus have a sexual relationship with a former prostitute when God had set the order of choosing a virgin and a devout woman as the mother of His son.
