LET’S FIX IT!

We ended the last post by talking about Shechem’s offer (get pregnant then marry to cover up, or better yet, end the pregnancy with an abortion so now one will ever know?). We already know how Jacob and his sons felt about the issue, so their jaws must have fallen open in anger and astonishment – more fuel on the fire! What’s all the fuss about (that is how we feel today – yeah, why not?). In order to see how they felt, we must look at what’s in the mortar beside the pestle.

Abraham himself set the pace regarding his and the lord’s opinions about the heathen by sending his servant back to Mesopotamia to look for a wife for Isaac. He told his servant in Gen 24: 3

“that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell”.

The heathen were diametrically opposed to God’s laws. They were demon worshippers. They lived to please the flesh, doing all kinds of evil and serving all kinds of gods. Scripture is full of their insanities.

Jacob had also learnt a good lesson from his grandfather Abraham who gave in later in life and married a heathen woman Keturah who produced five sons who gave Isaac hell. So why not accept Shechem’s offer? The girl needed a husband, after all and since they had already gone to bed, let’s make it a legal union. So why not?

THIS IS HOW DINAH NEARLY COST HER FAMILY ITS FUTURE BLESSING

We know that God later warned Israel in their history that they should neither marry the heathen people nor serve their gods. Numbers 25: 1-4, talks about the disastrous outcomes of the disobedience of the people of Israel when they,

“began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.”

Do you therefore see the strategy of the enemy for Jacob and his family? Their future would have ended even before they had an opportunity to inherit the blessings of the Lord. Think of the implications for future generations and for the seed of Abraham who would bruise the enemy’s heel. The heathen do have the tremendous ability to influence the believer through these means.

In the previous post, we learnt that Solomon loved many strange women who turned his heart away from the Lord. This cost him his kingdom since God could no longer trust him. God gave away 11 of the tribes to a stranger. Samson ended a briliant and illustrious career as a strongman and judge over  Israel due to his love for heathen women.

GOD TRICKED THEM

In years gone by, I used to wonder why Jacob and his sons treated these people so unfairly. This was before I saw the issue as God saw it. God was astounded that the enemy would use such a low down trick to cut off the seed of Abraham (he would have had to kill them and raise up a new seed in the earth if Jacob and sons Inc had not feared Him.

It seems that most of Hamor’s and Shechem’s discussions were held with the sons of Jacob since the father was too grieved to deal with the issue. The sons, chiefly Levi and Simeon, pretended to agree to the offers on condition that Hamor and all the men of his city would become circumcised.

Ladies, even if he becomes circumcised, God still is not fooled. Today, he can become circumcised by doing things like joining the church to try to fool your Pastor and members, for example. Well, Jacob’s sons got out their tools and began the gory job of the circumcisions (did they have anesthetics?). They waited until the third post – operative day, then slew the men of the city and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house (what was she doing there and was she glad to see them? I doubt).

Have you ever seen a circumcision or someone who has had one? Well, I have. That penis is swollen and painful and walking is very difficult. The individual (children in my case) do not even want to have water touching the area. Get the point? Picture Shechem and compatriots trying to defend themselves against a family. The bible says that Jacob’s family was few in number before they went into Egypt (about 75 people), so they had to use this strategy!

JACOB WAS SHOCKED

Jacob’s reaction to his son’s massacre of the entire city was one of shock. His sons Levi and Simeon (the ringleaders) did not care. They asked their father the following question, “Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?” Now what does their response tell us about how they viewed their sister’s actions? They felt indirectly that she had been treated like a whore. She had behaved like one.

This is exactly how God saw the issue as Paul revealed in 1 Cor 6: 15-16:

“Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh“.

Since Dinah had become defiled, she could not keep her inheritance in Israel. This is how God saw the issue. Why is there no tribe of Dinah? What happened to her? Her brothers had to intervene in the way they did in order to teach the heathen a good lesson. Don’t ever, ever do this again. Don’t mess with our women. They are not harlots like the heathen women. We are not like your people and we don’t want to be either.

That is why the church cannot compromise on the issue of premarital sex and intermarriage with the ungodly. Even if you marry him, you still become one spirit with the devil.  What an undesirable inheritance! Do you see why God selected Levi as the priests of Israel? He could not stand sin and folly!

In conclusion, I would like to ask again how many women of God (young girls too), have missed destiny by fooling around with premarital sex, abortions, cohabiting with men etc. This is a strategy of the enemy to make you lose an eternal inheritance, so run from the Shechems when they come with their enticements. Blessings
