There is no doubt that there is a definite and close relationship between angels and apostles that sets them apart from the relationship that they have with the other saints. Here are the keys to this relationship:

1. Apostles are greatly beloved by angels because of their very close fellowship with Jesus. The title “apostle” is related to relationship with Jesus and is not just a word related to a position in the church.

2. Jesus taught the apostles secrets of the kingdom of heaven that were hidden from the foundation of the earth. The prophet/musician spoke of having these secrets revealed when he played on his instruments:

“My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp” (Ps 49: 3,4)

Maschil, one of the sons of Asaph, also said in Psa 78:2 that he will open his mouth in a parable: and will utter dark sayings of old.

Matthew said that Jesus was fulfilling these prophecies (of revealing secrets) when He spoke to the crowds in parables:

“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.” (Mt 13: 35).

However, the Apostles were given the meanings of the parables. when they asked for the reason that the crowds were taught in parables, Jesus responded, ” because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given” (Mt 13: 11). It is interesting to note that Jesus also spoke to the apostles in parables ane expected thme to be able to interpret them.

This is what Paul meant when he told the Hebrews that “strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Heb 5: 14). Isaiah (28: 9) prophesied, “whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.” Therefore, God will only reveal His secrets to the spiritually mature.

3. The apostles are given these secrets because they are the doctrines and truths upon which the church rests. Paul said that the church is the “pillar and ground of truth” or the “the pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Tim 3: 15).

4. Peter established the authority of the apostles teachings when he said that they were EYEWITNESSES of the glory of the Lord. Moreover, they had heard the Father validating the Son in the mount of transfiguration. He then continued by explaining to the believers that:

2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost

5. Since angels are minstering spirits to the heirs of salvation, they participate in the wonderful job of revealing secrets to these servants of the Lord who are held in very high honor in the heavenlies.

I am going to immediately post a follow-up blog with more examples of angels’ participation in the revelation of secrets to the Apostles
