Predestination is an issue that puzzles many people and one which the Lord gave me further teaching about after I wrote from Ephesians 1 on Monday. Paul wrote that God has

Eph 1: 4 chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Eph 1: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

The word Predistinate or proorizō means to to predetermine, decide beforehand, in the NT of God decreeing from eternity, to foreordain, appoint beforehand. In other words, God had a plan from eternity about the believer’s inheritance and purpose in Him. But does it really mean that He selected some to be saved and some to be lost? Here are some important considerations:

THE IMPORTANCE OF EPHESIANS 1: 4

This scripture has a threefold teaching related to

a. our place in God before the foundation of the earth
b. God had a plan before the world was even formed
c. His plan was to be in fellowship with Him.

2. WHAT AND WHERE WERE WE BEFORE WE WERE BORN?

a. We were in God in the spirit form even as Adam was before God breathed him out and commanded him to be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth and subdue its living creatures (Eph 1: 4).
b. God is the “Father of Spirits” and He must breathe life for us to live. Job said that “the breath of the Almighty hath given me life” (Job 33: 4; Heb 12: 9).
c. God wanted replicas of himself in the earth, people made in His image and likeness (Gen 1: 26).
d. He wanted a people that would subdue and destroy the works of the devil as the last Adam did (1 Cior 15: 45).

3. GOD FOREKNEW US ALL BECAUSE WE CAME FROM HIM

This is illustrated by David when he taught us that

“My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them (Psa 139:15, 16).

Prophet Jeremiah said that God knew him before his birth:

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jer 1:5).

When I come back I will speak more. However, I have written on this before and you can read more at: https://pppministries.wordpress.com/category/and-now-are-we-the-sons-of-god/
