Oops. Some of you are about to pass out! Jesus is the Holy Spirit? Yes, He is. Here are some evidences:

  • He is God, who described Himself a spiritual being in John 4: 24. I will write later on the characteristics of the spiritual being.
  • He was described as being “holy” even before the time of His implantation into the womb. Prince Gabriel told Mary that “that Holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” (Lk 1: 35). Note that He was the Son of God and not the Son of Joseph and Mary.   He was conceived  because the Holy Spirit (another member of the God family) overshadowed Mary. She was the virgin who had conceived (Isa 7: 14).
  • Remember that nothing is impossible with God. Sarah, Mrs Manoah and Elizabeth were all past the age of conception when they became pregnant .
  • The Greek word overshadow implies that creative energy was exerted  on Mary’s  womb. Prince Ga briel told  Mary that she would conceive in her womb (Lk 1: 31). Human conception in the female usually takes place in the Fallopian tubes, not the womb itself. It seems that Jesus was directly placed into her womb to reinforce the truth that He was truely the Son of God.
  • I will remind you of the fulfilled prophecy in which Jesus said that the Father had prepared a body for Him in the earth (Heb 10: 5). 2 Cor 5: 21 says that “He knew no sin” although He was tempted in all points like every other human being (Heb 4: 15).
  • There is a principle which may help those of you who struggle with this truth. In John 3: 6, Jesus told Nicodemus, “that which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”  He was not born because of the flesh or the union of an ovum and a sperm. He was miraculously created by the power of God and implanted into Mary’s womb. This is why Prince Gabriel called him that Holy thing born of her. God reproduces this in the new birth that we call being saved. Read more in John 3.
