INTRODUCTION
The Genesis 6 account gives certain details about the days of the flood:
- the fallen sons of God corrupted the earth with false doctrines by intermarrying with humans and thus teaching them their ways
- God sent preachers to plead with the people to change their ways, but they would not repent. He therefore said told Noah that He would not always strive (diyn/plead/contend) with them (v 3)
- God therefore said that He would reduce human lifespan from centuries to 120 years because
- there was great wickedness in the earth and people’s spirits were full of evil from their youth (v 5)
- the people of the earth were corrupt (shachath/morally corrupt) – Gen 6: 11, 12)
- and there was violence in the earth (Gen 6: 11,13)
TO BE MORE SPECIFIC, WHAT WERE THE PRACTICES OF THE PEOPLE LIVING BEFORE THE FLOOD?
The lifestyles of the people in Abraham’s and Moses’ day give clear corollary on the situation before the flood. These giants, aka offsprings of the disobedient sons of God, also lived in the earth after the flood, carrying on the same henious activities that led to the destruction of the earth by flood. God did not ask Abraham to destroy the heathen of his time, but told him that his descendents would do so. God said that He would wait for the iniquity of the Amorites to be full (Gen 15: 16). In other words, God would give the heathen time to be such terrible sinners that He would be totally justified when He came with His saints to destroy them.
Through Abraham we learnt about the sexual perversion of the surrounding nations which led to their destruction by fire. God had put His tongue in cheek when He told Noah that He would never destroy the entire earth by flood. However, He told Moses that He would destroy it by fire burning down to the lowest hell (Deut 32: 22) . This is the judgement for the rebellious.
We also find in Jewish history a rich source of information cluing us into the reasons for the destruction of the earth before the flood. It has come clearly to my spirit that the key reason for the destruction was that the people were satan worshippers and the resulting atrocities such as moral corruption, evil and violence. As I said, we can find the reasons for the flood in the descendants on the earth after the flood, which had also become obedient to satanic influences:
- They were satan worshippers
Out of this stemmed the worship of false gods/demons such as Baal, Chemosh, Dagon, Asteroth, Molech etc. God warned the Jews not to worship demons because this included abominable practices such as
- offering incense to these gods (2 kings 23: 5)
- occultic practices such as witchcraft, communication with demons under the guise of communicating with the dead (Deut 18: 10; 2 kings 23: 24), cursing other people to bring evil as Balaam did to Israel
- child and human sacrifice which polluted the land with blood (Deut 18: 10; 2 Kings 23: 10). This was murder in the eyes of God.
- sexual immorality and homosexuality as part of the worship of these gods and/or as a way of life. In fact, the Jews at one time followed the heathen ways by placing a temple of sodomites in the house of the Lord! (2 KIngs 23: 7). Sodom and Gomorrah was incinerated for this reason.
- They were God haters and this was exemplified by the heathen opposing God and worshipping satan. He warned the Jews that they were not to bow down to any image nor to worship false gods because this brings a curse (Ex 20: 3-6).
2. They were wealthy, prosperous, carefree and technologically advanced
We learnt in scripture that the land of the heathen was fruitful and rich. Their cities were fenced and they had kings, great armies, weapons of war and chariots of iron. Jesus revealed that they were so carefree that the people living before the flood engaged in “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” (Mt 24: 38) as a way of life.
3. They were unbelievers
Apostle Peter said that the people of Noah’s day scoffed at Noah’s preaching, saying that it was impossible for rain to fall, because only mist had watered the earth from creation. They refused to remember that God was able to make anything come to pass with His word, therefore the flood came upon them unexpectedly:
I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires
They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water
By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed (2 Pet 3: 2-6)
CONCLUSION
The earth is permeated by the same corrupt practices that existed before the flood. Jesus prophesised that it would be so. There are many applications that can be made and I have long held to the belief that practices such as abortion and euthanasia are modern day form of human sacrifice and murder. We know that satan worship, occultism and all kinds of sexual perversion are well accepted in the earth.
God has clearly stated His way of life in His word. Those who follow His instructions will escape the eternal fire of hell. Let the church arise in the power of God and oppose the sins that bring the wrath of God.
Blessings and more to come!

I am a believer and I know god is in control and He is the true writer of the bible and that’s why I know their is a explanation to my question which is when God destroyed the earth in Noah’s flood and that all the earth was covered in water that only people alive we’re Noah and his family with the wife’s of his sons but in Genesis 1:26-27 He created man which leaves me to believe that’s were my ancestors come from whom were the Gentiles then in genesis 2:7-21-22 He created man and woman who are the Jewish race so from the beginning I know there were two kinds of people here on earth Jewish and Gentiles and as it is still today two kinds of people (Jewish )the chosen people of god and (Gentiles) his adopted people . And here’s my question how then were we the Gentiles still here on earth if the only people on the ark with Noah were Jewish only . Because I know that my heritage is of Mexican American and no one from my blood line is Jewish.

Greetings Joey
I do not believe that you should worry too much about being a natural born Jew (unless you do DNA testing to prove that). You have been adopted into Abraham’s family line through Jesus Christ according to the scriptures and we receive the promises of Abraham by faith:
Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.
Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you
So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith (Galatians 3: 7 – 9)

Two questions come to mind reading this;
1). If you believe God is real, and his word is real, and that YOU are safe, praise be to God, then WHY do you feel the need to control others?
God knows what they do, and he knows what they WILL do.
God KNOWS.
And he also knows WHEN he will come back, and also WHO will be spared and who will perish.
ALL of your “public” preaching, prophesying, and “out door” prayer are an abomination, says Jesus.
Jesus, you DO remember him, the SON of God?
Well HE says to “render unto Caesar, that which is Caesar’s”
Fundamental Christians USE the words of God to FIT their OWN personal views, and disregard Jesus’ words as if they were of LESSER importance.
*”Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. (Romans 13:1-7)
* “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” (Matt 25:31-46)
You CANNOT force, nor try to coerce people into Christianity.
YOU must be the LIGHT for them to turn to WHEN THEY themselves are ready to COME to God, THROUGH Jesus Christ.
YOU are
2) You call abortion a “sacrifice”, but the Bible makes NO such distinction.
The Bible speaks about “sacrificial offers to OTHER Gods”.
I am anti-abortion myself, but the Bible is CLEAR.
WE are not to pass judgement on the World, that is GOD’S role, alone.
My question then is; WHY do you FEAR the return of the savior so much, that you would try to INFLUENCE the time of his return?

Dear Manda
Thanks for taking time to read. I get you. Why doesn’t God just kill all the bad guys in another major flood, tornado or something like that? Well, we would if we were God. Thing is – God promised that He would never destroy the entire earth in a flood.
Tongue in cheek. Did you notice that He does become exasperated at times and floods out entire geographic regions – parts of Australia and the USA?
Finally – a worse judgment is coming for the baddies -that is FIRE— heat like joke. Problem is (a good thing too), God really does not want anyone to perish and keeps waiting to see if people will believe Him.
Why don’t you ask if He could become your friend then He will let you know just how He sees things. Some of His thoughts on life etc are written in the BIBLE. If you believe, He will check you out.
Write me again – love hearing from you.
Sincerely
Mercedes

I have always heard of the flood throughout my life, but have never understood why it took place. I am NOT trying to say God is wrong or trying to come off as a non believer. Why did He create the flood int he first place?? If He is a knower of all, surely he would have known that the people in that day were going to sin against him. Was he trying to show man that even He is human to err?? Please respond!! Thanks, Greg

Dear Greg
Thanks for your response. The flood revealed that God has given us the right to make choices, even if our choices lead to death and contradict His will and plan for the human race and for our lives.
With that said, He retains the right to make decisions about the nature of the responses that He would take against our actions. Human courts of law act in much the same way and pass sentences on criminals. Hope this is much clearer

God could have eliminated his mistakes (humans gone wrong) with the wave of a hand. That “he” chose one of the most painful deaths imaginable for unblemished babies and children tells me that this could not have happened. I see the whole story as obscene and blasphemous. Humans today who believe these repulsive myths are at a very “young” level of soul development. They’re like kindergartners trying to master physics.

You are entitled to your own opinions. Terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center in one of the most horrifying attacks in this century. Will the generations to come deny that it ever happened because it is just too terrific to believe?

I think too Mercedes that God used water as a cleansing element – Washing – I think that the flood waters can be a symbol of baptism – the old life dying the new being born – when Fire comes then comes purification – purification of the precious metal the dross is removed, there is nothing left but the pure metal. Think judgement seat of Christ – New heaven and a new earth – Fire seams to be the end.

the gods (“God” and “the angels”) supposedly flooded the entire earth (which many believe was actually a localized flood) to rid the planet of a new species of half-god, half-men beings…known as the Nephilim and were called “giants” …men of old, men of renown. The genesis I read tells of how the gods were seeing what was happening with “the sons of god” (members of the “god race”) actually coming down from the heavens (which literaly means sky) then fornicating and reproducing with “the daughters of men” (human women). The leader of this “god race” decided no good can come from this and basically REGRETTED creating humans in the first place.
many holy rollers will argue with this, however it’s all there in your golden book Genesis Chapter 6.
pay special attention to verses 6 and 7
6And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
those who deny it…remember one thing, whatever happened during that time period was enough to make YOUR GOD wish he never created you.

My question was if there is a significant reason for God using water. I am not sure there is an answer this side of heaven. But it seems if he used fire, water or total destruction of the earth all would die and he could save anyone he wanted.
Was the significance to our make up of 75% water, or that the demons of that day couldnt survive a watery death. Just a burning question
Thanks

Hello Craig
I had to chuckle at your query because you are trying to find out exactly how God thinks. The first thought in my mind was Apostle Peter’s commentary on the flood (1 Peter 3: 20-22)…
a. but before I get there… we need to remember that no one had ever seen rain until that fateful and momentous day. Mist from the ground watered the earth.
b. The merriment, feasting and weddings were interrupted by Noah’s preaching about a flood (say what?) and the building of a boat.
c. Having seen videos of the event, Apostle Peter (2 Peter 3: 3-9) revealed that Prophet Noah was the laughing stock of the day – they said that no one had ever heard of such a thing! Since the fathers fell asleep, mist had watered the ground .
d. They refused to believe that God could change His creation by speaking the word.
e. They mocked, laughed and sang songs about “Noah’s Folly” as the animals entered the ark – as Noah entered the ark. They saw a man shut the door.
f. All of a sudden, they felt water dripping on them. They started to slap the water away- puzzled. It increased in intensity – that is when the horrible truth hit them – Noah was right.
Fire was too good a destruction for them. They had been given 100 years warning.
God loves a little drama sometimes.
We have heard for over 2000 years about a fire coming to destroy the earth. It will take place.
Sincerely
Mercedes

A man did not close the door of the ark. Jehovah closed the door. I have never read in scripture about anyone singing either.

Dear Tisdale
I am not sure to which specific post you are responding. I agree that scriptures did say that God shut the door of the ark. That way, Noah and his family were totally unable to open it to let in unrepentant sinners as the banged on its doors when the flood started.
Thanks for commenting
