1.      A mini – mini history of the ancestors of SVG

This is a mini case study about the need for atonement of the sins of the ancestors of St Vincent and the Grenadines. They were the Arawaks and Caribs, the latter being a warlike, violent and demon/idol worshipping people. The ancestral spirits worshipped by the Caribs were never renounced and cast out of the nation and remain attached to the nation and its peoples, possibly with their presence being dominant in specific locations.

2.  Resurfacing of the spirits affiliated with the ancestors with food and drink offerings

These ancestral spirits or demons of violence were resurrected in 2004, when the nation renewed its friendships with the Garifunas. The Garifunas live in Belize and are the descendants of the Caribs who had been exiled by the British.  To mark the renewal of friendship, one of the events planned was a pilgrimage to Balliceux.  One of the first things that the Garifunas did on arrival at Balliceux  was to place offerings of food and drink on the ground to their idols/demons.   This act of worship gave the demons permission to become active and there began an increase of violence in the land from that time, including the decapitation of a young  woman and other terrible murders. God commanded the Jews not to place any offerings on the ground because it was a very common practice way in which the heathen worshipped demons.  They were to take all offerings to the temple. In other words, the Jews were so rebellious that  they would use any pretext to worship a demon.

Where is the evidence in scripture? Demon worship is associated with the offering of food and drink to demons and this is why God warned the Jews not even to make any such offerings outside of His temple.  The children of Israel made a golden calf and angered God. They had a carnival.  This is what they did:

  • They said that  the calf represented the gods which had brought them out of Egypt
  • They angered God further when they called the calf/demons His Holy Name.
  • They offered burnt offerings of animals and brought peace offerings to the calf/demon  (the surrounding nations would burn their own children as sacrifices)
  • They had a feast
  • They got naked and had a drunken, sexual orgy (Exodus 32: 1- 18).

Another common practice is eating and selling food and drink offered to demons.  This was a common practice in Greek culture and early Christians struggled with this (1 Cor 8; 10).  The resurrection of demons is seen in the work of witches, mediums etc who consult them for information. To fool you, the demons appear in the disguise of dead relatives.  King Saul went to a witch who expected to see a demon arise from the grave. She was terrified when God sent Prophet Samuel to speak to her instead. God does not ever do this, but broke his own rules in order to confound King Saul.

3. Demon worship pollutes the land with blood

Satan loves to steal, kill and destroy and the lands become polluted with blood when he is worshipped (Psalm 106: 34-39). Death, murder in all forms, terrible sicknesses and mental oppression are associated with demon worship.  The event at Balliceux is mainly associated with the violence on the land, because we allowed it to happen.  I made an atonement on behalf of the land on January 25th, 2010, but call on us to do the same. We are to be alert and not ignorant of the work of the kingdom of darkness and arrest it whenever it presents in these forms.

4. The curse is broken by an atonement

This is the role of the church. I write this in love because I know that harm was not knowingly intended by the leaders of the land.   However, God wants us to be aware of national and cultural practices that bring curses (the rain dance in Union Island is another example).  You argue that these practices produce results. Yes, they do because satan does have power and will reinforce this power by producing results, but this is not a life giving power source.  Satan always takes something in exchange and he will ask for the lives of your children, corrupt them with unbelievable sins and send them to the pits of hell. We therefore need to:

  • Confess the sins that our forefathers they committed back then. Daniel went backwards in time and confessed the sins of those who had led the nation into captivity (Daniel 9)
  • Repent as if we had been there and beg for pardon (see Moses’ plea in Exodus 32: 30-35).
  • Ask God to have pardon, have mercy on the land and to cleanse the ancestral lineage  by the blood/apply the blood of Jesus
  • Confess the sins of the Garifunas and ask God for pardon, the cleansing of  Balliceux and the nation
  • Arrest the demons/bar them from their murdering activity. Scriptures teach that we must cast down demonic strongholds that are established over nations (as we see in Daniel’s visions).  God also has angels assigned to nations as we see in Ezekiel 9, but whose side are you on?
  • Cast down the strongholds of demons assigned over the nation. Jesus always sent demons back to the bottomless pit (Lk 8: 31). When Paul and Silas were imprisoned in Phillipi, Macedonia, the downfall of the strongholds in Praise and Worship was manifested as an earthquake.  This is why we need intercessors in nations. Daniel’s strong intercession released the help of God and dethroned the Demonic Prince of Persia. This preceded the capture of Babylon by King Cyrus who released the people after 47 years of captivity with the intent of rebuilding God’s place of worship in earth.  Curses and bondages can be broken through atonement.
  • Promise to serve God as a nation.
  • Change will come.

5. Real life example

Social unrest followed a government decision and the President took swift, decisive action to kill the protestors in a plague.  A quick thinking & powerful mediator ordered his chief to take action :

And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed (Numbers 16: 42-48)

Match this with Genesis 8: 20-22  & Revelation 8: 3-5. I call on my brothers and sisters in Christ to make atonement for the land and ask God to cleanse and let us end the violence in our beautiful Hairoun.
