1. What is the meaning of “two thousand and three hundred days?”

What did Archangel Gabriel mean when he set the deadline for cleansing in “two thousand and three hundred days” from the desolation? (Daniel 8: 8-14). We have already eliminated Antiochus since he desecrated the temple during the 3rd kingdom seen in Daniel’s vision.

If we count 2300 days (6.3 years) from 70  AD, we would get to  76 AD. However, the temple has not yet been restored up to the time of writing.

2. The clue lies in the word “thousand … days”

Archangel Gabriel told Daniel that the temple would be cleansed in “two thousand and three hundred days. Since the book of Daniel is already replete with parables, this is therefore another of them. The clue lies in the words “thousand … days.”

From God’s perspective, 1 day = 1000 years:

  • a thousand years in thy sight are like yesterday (Psalm 90: 4).
  • “one day is like a thousand years to the Lord and a thousand years like one day” (2 Peter 3: 8).
  • The deadline for the restoration of the Temple from 70 AD is therefore 30 + 2300 = 2330
  • This is 320 years from 2010.

3. Can this deadline be changed?

Yes. A change in the deadline is conditional on the response of the Jewish people to the Messiah and to the prophecy.  Scriptures reveal that God gives timelines to help people to repent and reveal His mercies.

For example:

  • Ninevah was given 40 days before a destruction. They repented and God held back the destruction.
  • According to Prophet Jeremiah, 70 years were to be fulfilled before the release from captivity, which was scheduled for 516 BC (Jeremiah 29: 10; Daniel 9: 2).
  • However, reading between the lines, we can see from Isaiah’s prophecy about Cyrus that God really intended for an early release from the captivity. This prophecy was given during the reign of King Hezekiah (725 – 696).
  • Prophets Ezekiel and Daniel played a key role in making atonements for the sins of the nation. Daniel played an even greater role as a man greatly beloved by God.
  • God used his intercessions and diplomatic activities to move King Cyrus to release the captives in the 47th year rather than at the end of a complete 70.

4. What are  specific recommendations for an EARLIER  restoration of the temple?

  • The Jews need to return to God with confessions for the sins of the nation, strong prayers and fasting for forgiveness and cleansing.
  • The Messiah is your peace – Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved from your enemies as He said (Luke 19: 42 & 44)
  • While all believers are His temple, His Temple is to be a house of prayer for all nations. Jesus claimed it as His house when He chased out the merchants.
  • Simon Bar Cocba, who was proclaimed as Messiah in 135 BC, is dead. He did not deliver his people from their enemies for a long term period.
  • The true Messiah has come and has fulfilled the prophecies spoken about His birth, death and resurrection.

God loves His people and will fulfill His covenant to Abraham, revealing His sure mercies to all those who call on His name.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Most High!
