The Book of Revelation reveals Lord Jesus in an entirely different light when compared to His life and ministry on earth. He is NOT the suffering Savior, but presents Himself as:

  • Head of His Church
  • Chief Apostle and Bishop and
  • Lord of All

He gave John secret, insider information for seven real churches, with seven real leaders and real members. They lived during the rule of the Roman Empire. Caesar was god, idol/demon worship prevailed and persecution and martyrdom of Christians were the order of the day.

Jesus’ messages to the leaders could be seen as a form of leadership training since He revealed the TRUE spiritual condition of the churches then either commended or rebuked their service and works.

It is clear in Jesus’ seven letters to the seven churches that self deception, as in the case of the Church of Laodicea, is the doorway to hell. The Lord sees and knows all. Nothing is hidden from His eyes.

I would like to highlight the exact words that Jesus used to describe Himself to each of the seven churches:

  • “These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands or churches” – Revelation 2: 1
  • “To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again” – Revelation 2: 8.
  • “To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword” – Revelation 2: 12
  • “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze” Revelation 2: 18
  • “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead – Revelation 3: 1
  • “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.” – Revelation 3: 7.
  • “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation” – Revelation 3: 14.

One of the most important truths about Jesus’ letters to the churches is that He models the pattern for correction of leaders in His Body!

On another final note, I have found that the most effective way to worship is to take the words from the scripture and say them back to God. Think of how sweet the aroma of worship would be when we acknowledge the Lord for who He truly is. Let’s tell Him:

  • Jesus you are the head of your church, the Savior of the Body
  • You are the first and the last. You were dead, but now you live forevermore.
  • You are the living Word of God.
  • Your eyes of fire see every thing and purge your church
  • You are wisdom, knowledge, counsel, full of understanding in the fear of God, discerning, righteous and faithful.
  • You are holy and true, hold the key of David. No one can shut what you open or open what you shut.
  • You are the Amen, the faithful and true witness and the ruler of God’s creation

These words are the core. As you worship, let the Words that you speak flow directly from the scriptures as much as possible – takes you into the presence of God with greater ease.

Blessings and have a good day in His Presence.
