Jesus’ introduction of Himself to Sardis – He has the seven Spirits of God

Jesus in His introduction revealed Himself as the One with the “seven Spirits of God and the seven stars:”

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead (Rev 3:1).

We know that Lord Jesus is speaking symbolically and not literally. The seven stars refer to the seven leaders of the seven churches. The “seven spirits of God refer to the fullness of  God in Christ. In other words, all of the dimensions of the Spirit of God is the Spirit of Christ.

The word seven is symbolic, meaning complete – and means that Jesus is fully God. Apostle Paul explained that all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him (Colossians 2: 9). The revelation that Jesus is God is revealed and confirmed in scriptures and encapsulated in Isaiah 11:

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears (discernment):

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked (Spirit of reproof or correction).

And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them (peacefulness)

And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

2. Jesus exposed the true spiritual condition of the church of Sardis

Jesus made a shocking revelation in the same breath in which He introduced Himself as the one with “ the seven Spirits of God, and the seven star.” In so doing, He revealed and confirmed that He operates in the Spirit of Knowledge, Discernment and Righteousness.

The members of the church of Sardis thought it was wonderful and had everything “going on,”  They must have been overcome with embarrassment when they heard the words of  Lord Jesus:

“I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead”. OR

“I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead” (ESV)

It would do you well for you to note that Lord Jesus continually referred to Himself as the Spirit of God in each of His letters when He says, He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”

Lord Jesus’ teaching confirms that:

Hope that your head is not spinning. Blessings!
