1. The antichrist in scripture.

The word “antichrist” occurs 4 times in 4 verses in the KJV and matches Strong’s G500 or antichristos.

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist (G500/antichristos)  shall come, even now are there many antichrists (G500/antichristos); whereby we know that it is the last time (1 John 2: 18).

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist  (G500/antichristos), that denieth the Father and the Son (1 John 2: 22).

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist (G500/ antichristos) , whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world (.1 John 4: 3).

For many deceivers (planos/G4108) are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver  (planos/G4108)  and an antichrist (G500 – antichristos) – 2 John 1: 7.

2. Forms in which antichrist/antichrists is/are used in scripture.

The antichrist is one or more human beings:

Apostle John made a comparison between “Antichrist” (singular) and “many antichrists” (plural).  This suggests that the term refers to antichrist as one or more human beings:

  • ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists.
  • many antichrists – plural form which seems to describe humans.

Apostle John uses the pronoun “he” to refer specifically to a person as the antichrist:

  • He that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist – antichrist is personified and a pronoun is used.

b. The antichrist is a spirit:

Apostle John uses the pronoun “it” is used to represent an inanimate thing (dictionaryreference.com, 2012). In other words, he refers to the antichrist as a spiritual entity and not as a human being:

  • and this is that [spirit] of antichrist whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world– the antichrist is a spirit.

3. Hallmarks of the antichrist and/or spirit of the antichrist.

  • Denies the Father and the Son.
