The Work of the Ministry to be done by leaders in the Church

Today we will explore the work of the ministry to be done by leaders appointed by Lord Jesus in His Church. I refer to the Ministry of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher:

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4: 11 – 13).

What is the meaning of the word “works?”

Ergon is the Greek word for “works” in Ephesians 4: 12.  When used in the scripture, Ergon means that the leaders must:

  1. Perform miracles, signs and wonders.
  2. Believe God’s word – have great faith.
  3. Do good works or well-doing.
  4. Carry out the assignments/work of the ministry given by God.
  5. Demonstrate evidences of a transformed life.
