1.  Parallels between the temptation of the FIRST ADAM and the Temptation of Jesus, the LAST ADAM

First, this post intends to show the parallels between the temptation in the Garden of Eden and the Temptation of Jesus.  Although Eve and not Adam was tempted, God also judged Adam because he fell in with her rather than resisting the devil.   You may ask, “How could there be any  parallels between Adam and Jesus?”

Well, Apostle Paul  revealed them to us and they are the key to seeing the similarity between the temptation of Adam in the Garden of Eden and the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness.

FIRST ADAM

 

THE LAST ADAM – Christ

 

… was the son of God (Luke 3: 38).

The only begotten Son of God (John 3: 16)

 

death reigned from Adam to Moses (Romans 5: 14)

Christ brought eternal life

 (1 Cor 15: 45).

 

The human race became sinners because of Adam’s disobedience (Romans 5: 19)

The human race could become righteous because of his obedience (Romans 5: 19)

 

The first man Adam was made a living soul/he could die/was mortal (1 Cor 15: 45).

The last Adam was made  a quickening/life giving spirit  (1 Cor 15: 45).

2. Jesus was tempted in ALL POINTS  yet  did not succumb to satan, but remained sinless

The second truth that we need now is that Jesus was tempted in all points as we are yet without sin:

 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in 2596 all points 3956 tempted 3985 3987  like as [we are, yet] without sin (Hebrews 4: 15)

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin  (NIV).

3. What does it mean to be tempted IN ALL POINTS?

The phrase ALL POINTS occurs twice in the King James Version – once in the Old and New Testament respectively.   Pas ( G 3956)  is the Greek word used in the New Testament scripture for all points.  It means all,every, every one.

However, a clearer application can be elicited from the usage of the phrase  in the Old Testament where `ummah is the Hebrew word used.  In all points/`ummah 5980 means PARALLEL WITH, CORRESPONDING TO, EXACTLY: 

And this also [is] a sore evil, [that] in all points/`ummah 5980 as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind? (Ecc 5: 16).

Jesus was tempted exactly as we are. Sin came on all humans  because of Adam, the first sinner.   Therefore, our next quest to understanding more about the temptation in the  Garden of Eden would be to examine the temptation of Jesus. The parallels will become clearer, I hope.
