1. Did Satan Also Promise Kingdoms, Glory And Power To Adam And Eve In Exchange For Their Worship?

Today I continue, rather bravely, I must say, to explore parallels between the temptation of our Lord Jesus and that of Adam and Eve.  In a previous post, I wrote  that “Satan Tempted Jesus To Worship In Exchange For Kingdoms, Glory And Power.”
Today’s question is whether or not satan also promised kingdoms, glory and power to Adam and Eve in exchange for their worship?

The answer is YES, although is it hidden rather than overt in Genesis 3 account, which showed that satan promised to make them like gods:

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and YE SHALL BE AS GODS (‘elohiym/H430), knowing good and evil (Genesis 3: 1 – 5).

2. Did Adam and Eve worship satan?

Yes they did.  We learnt in Satan Tempted Jesus To Worship In Exchange For Kingdoms, Glory And Power” that the key element of worship is to bow down and to submit to someone in authority.  To worship is to acknowledge the rulership and the authority of the one to whom the worship is given.

Scriptures teach us that we become the servants of those we obey. God had given a righteous command to Adam and Eve, and satan gave a counter – order. Adam and Eve gave over their ALLEGIANCE to satan when they obeyed him, thereby making him lord and ruler of their lives:

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living (Romans 6: 16).

I hear the Father say that this is the reason they became fearful of God. They had to hide from their Father God because they were afraid that he would see their nakedness and take away their new – found “power.”

3. Satan promised Adam and Eve that they would become like gods if they worshipped him

Satan had to give bait to Adam and Eve in order to gain their ALLEGIANCE and to steal them away from God:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and YE SHALL BE AS GODS (‘elohiym/H430), knowing good and evil (Genesis 3: 5).

Making Adam and Eve like gods was a tall order. A person who feels they are a god believes that they are to be worshipped and that they control things. What exactly did satan mean  when he said that Adam and Eve would be as gods?

On the surface, I believe that they thought that he meant that they could become all-powerful like God the Father.  They violated the Father’s warning not to eat satan’s doctrine, that tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

‘Elohiym occurs 2,606 times in 2,249 verses in the Hebrew concordance of the King James Version of the Bible and refers to God and humans:

  • The true and living God (in the majority of the references)
  • idols/strange gods/other gods  – Genesis 31: 30; Gen 35: 4; Exodus 20: 3
  • gods of Egypt – Exodus 12: 12
  • used in reference to Abraham as a “mighty prince” – Gen 23: 6

Interestingly, ‘Elohiym  comes from the root word ‘elowahh (H433) which is used in the following texts. Satan promised to make Adam and Eve like gods and we see clearly that gods and devils are the same in the text of Deuteronomy 32: 17.

Sadly, they did not clarify the meaning of his statement. Moreover, satan was lying anyway, and they fell to their destruction:

  • he forsook God H433 which made him – Deuteronomy 32: 15.
  • They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; H433 to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up – Deuteronomy 32: 17.
  • … or no god H433 of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand – 2 Chronicles 32: 15.
  • Is there a God H433 beside me?- Isaiah 44: 8.

Blessings, peace and angelic prosperity.
