Summary of the study of temptation

As we studied Temptation, we discovered that satan tempts the human race in the following ways. He:

  1. tempts the individual to satisfy the desires of the flesh through the acquisition of earthly possessions in a manner that is contrary to the Word of  God.
  2. claims the earth as his and asks humans to worship him in exchange for kingdoms, glory and power
  3. dares humans to sin presumptuously by twisting the Word of God and turning it into a lie

We also discovered that the aim of satan’s temptation is to sift the believer like wheat in order to cause his/her faith to fail or to cause the believer to move from a place of faith to fear.  He sifts the believer, and indeed the human race in order to cause us to deny the Lord and to walk contrary to the Word of God

The scriptures teach us that we can overcome the temptation of the devil. Jesus led by example and showed us how to overcome. He too was tempted by the devil in a parallel manner.

2.  Temptation is seasonal

The Father spoke these words to me as I prepared for this new post.  After ending all of the temptation of the Lord Jesus,  the scriptures say that satan  departed from him for a season/kairos/G 2540  (Luke 4: 13).

Kairos is the Greek word used for season in the text and it is mainly used in the King James Version to mean season and time:

a.  The usage of kairos shows that temptation has an appointed time

  • … art thou come hither to torment us before the time? G2540 Matthew 8: 29
  • … and in the  time G2540 of harvest I will say to the reapers  – Matthew 13: 30
  • … and when the time G2540 of the fruit drew near  – Matthew 21: 34
  • … to give them meat in due season? G2540Matthew 25: 45
  • … the Master saith, My time G2540 is at hand  – Matthew 26: 18
  • … the time G2540 is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand – Mark 1: 15
  • … when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time G2540 of figs was not yet. – Mark 11: 13
  • … behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. G2540 – Luke 1: 20
  • for an angel went down at a certain season G2540into the pool and troubled the water  – John 5: 4

It sounds very strange to speak of the appointment with temptation. However, this is revealed in the temptation of Jesus:

  • The Lord was led by the Father into the wilderness in order to be tempted by the devil (Matthew 4: 1; Luke 4: 1).
  • satan was only permitted to tempt the Lord in THREE POINTS.
  • the temptation lasted 40 days to correspond with the temptation of God by Israel in the wilderness. Therefore satan was given a season or timetable  for the commencement and end of the temptation.

Jesus was so aggravated by the devil that He taught us to pray, “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matthew

b.  The  times of temptation only last for a while

This dual application of Kairos in Luke 8: 13 shows that there are times of temptation, but they only last for a while.

They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while G2540 believe, and in time G2540 of temptation fall away – Luke 8: 13.

It is so comforting to know that temptation only lasts for a while.  We see the parallel with Job whose temptation did not last all of his lifetime. God delivered and made a way of escape so that His servant Job was able to bear it.

It is therefore important that we remain steadfast and unmoving in the times of temptation in order to allow God to give us double reward when it ends.

We learn too from scripture that the Father, who permits the temptation, also prays that our faith would not fail. It is the Father’s will that every  believer should bear, overcome and escape the temptation:

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience… God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure – 1 Corinthians 10: 13

The question is whether or not we can discern the times of temptation. More to come. Blessings, peace and angelic prosperity.
